Somehow it’s been a whole year since our littlest gal joined our family. We hosted a small party with cake, ice cream, and lemonade (you know- the essentials) to help us ease into accepting that our little baby was about to become a one-year-old. In case you were wondering about the title of this post, it was the first time any of us 5 celebrate a first birthday (#exJWprobs), and it was so so sweet. We kept saying it seemed like she knew it was all about her and I love that now we can take the opportunity to let each of our children know how much we love and appreciate them being part of our family on their special day. It’s been just over two years since I stopped identifying as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and it seems like a lifetime since I could use their reasoning to explain why we didn’t celebrate birthdays.
I had high expectations of her smashing her cake and devouring the majority of it, but when the time came she cried when she got icing on her arm and refused to do more than poke it with a finger. She giggled when we gave her a fork, which is completely appropriate; she hasn’t taken her first steps yet but her eye-hand coordination never ceases to amaze me. She usually eats with a fork as if she’s completed etiquette classes and mastered handling cutlery. Still, despite having a fork in hand, she ultimately decided she wanted nothing to do with cake and used her baby signs to say “all done” without even taking a single bite. Oh well, c’est la vie, right?! You can lead a baby to cake but you can’t make ’em eat. 😉 Happy Birthday, Judah Jubilee– with or without cake.
Judah’s peach romper is from The Little Spoons and her flower crown is from Finn and Pines. I searched high and low to find just the right flower crown, and I’m so happy with this one! It’s even prettier in person, and so well made. I’m not a sponsored rep, just a fan of well made products. 🙂 Now through Monday August 15th, you can save 25% on any order from Finn and Pines using the coupon code “Summer25”. Happy Shopping, friends!
